What wonderful weather we have been having! Its great to get out for a walk but be careful where you step!!  
 
Here’s what you can do to help keep our parks and off-leash areas safe and healthy for pets, people and wildlife:  
Always carry pet waste bags with you when you walk your dog.  
Pick up your pet’s waste by:  
Placing your hand in the bag.  
Grabbing the waste.  
Turning the bag inside out.  
Closing the bag.  
 
Properly dispose of your pet's waste as soon as you can.  
 
Dog waste facts:  
Dog waste is classified as a hazardous pollutant. It’s in the same category as toxic chemicals!  
It’s never a good fertilizer. Its high-nutrient content is toxic to your lawn and will create “hot spots” causing your grass to burn and discolour.  
It may contain parasites, including roundworm and tapeworm.  
It’s crawling with E. coli and other harmful bacteria, like salmonella, that can cause serious illness in humans.  
It often contains roundworm larvae which, if ingested by humans or dogs, can lead to brain, eye and other organ damage.  
It’s the leading contributor to storm water contamination.  
It doesn’t absorb into the soil, so the risk of spreading its harmful effects can linger for years!  
It attracts mice, coyotes and other wildlife as they consider it a delicious snack.

now that the snow has melted, our routes are littered with dog poo. Who actually lets their dog poop on the sidewalk and not pick up?

The sidewalks are always horrible this time of year. I took my daughter for a walk in the stroller and I actually had to move off the sidewalk a few times cause there was just no way to navigate through all the land mines. Gross! I own a dog myself and can honestly say that I have never not picked up after her. It's so easy in the winter too... you just scoop it up along with a handful of snow! I guess people think they don't have to bother with the snow covering it. Ugh! I've said this before... it's people like that who give all of us pet owners a bad rep!

Should rub the owners nose in it!  
 

the amount of poop on the sidewalks and boulevards is unbelievable. As a dog owner, I have never not picked up, its part of being a responsible pet owner. I just don't understand the thought process of people who don't do it. If you don't pick up after your dog, keep it in your yard, you will see how quickly you pick up when your yard becomes its own poop city.

If the City of Brandon had properly manned walking sites, I'm sure dog owners would be a lot more inclined to pick up the 'business'....it is a $278 fine should you fail to clean up after your pet.  
 
Furthermore, I'm sure it's not full out common knowledge, but when the human is sick, strains of bacteria can/may be shared and transferred to your pet. This, in turn, is excreted on a walk and may be unknowingly 'shared' when other dogs sniff along their way on a walk too.  
 
Just plain consideration for others should have owners cleaning up after their pets. I've gone out for walks (forgetting a baggie) and will return to where they did business to pick it up after the walk is complete.

Definitely looks to be a hot topic for this time of the year.

I just love the discussion title of this post. I am always amazed at people who don't pick up their dog doo. When I'm out walking and see it everywhere I wonder if others assume I don't pick up my dog's poop and lump me in with all the irresponsible people. My dog may sniff your cold dog leftovers but he didn't doo it. lol
