Don't leave a mess behind

As the old saying goes there are two things you can count on, death and taxes
Although it is hard for some people to think about, there will come a day when whoever is left behind has to step in and look after everything YOU left behind. If you do not have a will someone in Manitoba must apply to the courts to become the administrator of your estate. That person will have to post a bond (costs money to them).
There's lots of things to consider if your single, married, common law, children etc.
I found this website you may find helpful:

My advice
1. Pay to have a lawyer prepare your will, power of attorney and health care directive. Costs around $200 for a basic will etc.
2. Pick up one of those coloured plastic folders from Staples and put your will, insurance documents, bank info and other important information in it. (Easily identified)
3. Talk to your family or friends about where that folder is and who your lawyer is (they keep your documents in their vault). Then if you are in a situation where you cannot make decisions for yourself medically they know where your health care directive and power of attorney is so that they can advise the Dr's as to your wishes and continue to pay your bills etc. while you recover. Or look after "what you left behind" (your estate) if you pass away.
