Question for the general public,  
If the employee's of Canada Post are no longer representing the company , (Canada Post) by walking the picket line, why then are they wearing their uniforms and or clothing given to them or issued to them by Canada Post, this is happening Canada wide, should they not be wearing just normal clothing with nothing that represents Canada Post as they do not wish to work at the present for them. My own opinions on the matter is that if you are not working for the company you should not be wearing the uniform.  
Thoughts or opinions on this ?

If they are locked out, which I believe they are, they are generally allowed to wear their uniforms.  
 
If they are striking, they will usually wear street clothes.  
 
So in this case, because Canada Post issued a lock out, they can continue to wear their uniforms.

Canada Post issued the lockout notice after the Union told Canada Post that the members had voted and were ready to go on strike, hence the Union giving Canada Post Strike notice.

Sad state of affairs, CanPost.  
 
Let's invite USPS to come north and take it over.

First, USPS is also hemorrhaging money. They are in a pretty dire financial situation, just like Canada Post.  
 
Second - what do tariffs and customs charges have to do with it? Those have nothing whatsoever to do with Canada Post.

Over the last 6 years Canada Post has lost 3 billion dollars of tax payers money. That a 3 and nine zero's folk. Canada post workers solution to the issue.....demand a 24% raise in pay.

Canada Post isn't funded by taxpayers.

It literally is self-funded. Hence why it's bleeding money. It's basically a business owned by the government, but receives no money from the government. It turned a profit pretty consistently before 2011. It has turned a profit several years since then, most recently in 2017, according to Wikipedia. It would have turned a profit in 2018 if it wasn't for a labour disruption (i.e. strike) and a pay equity payout.  
 
Fun fact: Canada Post has a monopoly on all mail under 500g. It's illegal to anyone else to compete with it for that segment of business.

Thank you, TheBrofessor! This thread has been driving me nuts for the reason that posters are claiming that our taxes are funding Canada Post. They should know it is a crown corporation and has been since 1981.

I sorry but I'm a little confused. The definition of a Crown Corporation is "a commercial company owned by the government, controlled and operated by civil servants". So when "a company owned by the government" loses $300 million dollars in the last quarter, who is paying for that short fall. I pretty sure it's the tax payers.

...Like they did to health care and CN/CP.  
After all, this is a federal operation, so why is Trudeau not chiming in?  
Can use my $250 cheque to help restore mail service.

Canada post is a crown corporation owned by the federal government. So it is publicly owned but not publicly funded. It is funded on the sale of its goods and services to fund the company.

I understand that Chey58, but when there is a 300 million dollar shortfall, who pays for that?

It gets paid for by withdrawing from their cash reserves and savings, or by by adding to their debt. Similar to other Crown corporations like Manitoba Hydro.

The median estimated compensation for executives at Canada Post Corporation including base salary and bonus is $236,908, or $113 per hour. At Canada Post Corporation, the most compensated executive makes $700,000, annually, and the lowest compensated makes $50,000.  
 
I think I found a few places to recover some of the money. Could you imagine running a corporation that loses 3 billion a year and still bringing home over 200,000.  
Make it make sense.

1. Canada Post hasn't lost 3 billion per year.  
 
2. That CEO salary is terrible. Most CEOs at private companies that size would make 10x what the Canada Post CEO makes. At $700k they are basically hiring executives who are way underqualified.

I'm under qualified. Hire me. I would gladly work for 14 times what I currently make at my full-time job. And my company makes money.

IMO...8% wage increase over 4 years is fair.

As of Tues, Dec 17th. I am sure they can draw up a contract in the near future, but holding packages hostage is bloody rude.  
A federal "Back to work incentive" is in order!
