Position Overview
The Yard & Garden Department Lead is a hands-on, sales-focused leadership role responsible for the daily operation and performance of the department. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with customers, building quotes, and following sales through from initial conversation to final purchase.
Working closely with Ownership and Senior Management, this role ensures the department is well-stocked, well-presented, and actively generating sales opportunities. A strong focus of this position is developing customer relationships and converting inquiries into completed sales.

Key Responsibilities
Department Leadership
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the Yard & Garden department during daily operations
- Support, guide, and schedule seasonal staff during peak periods
- Maintain department standards for organization, cleanliness, and presentation
- Lead by example through active sales engagement and POS use
Sales & Customer Relationship Management
- Actively engage customers to understand their outdoor project needs
- Generate quotes for products including patio furniture, planters, and large purchases
- Manage special orders from initial request through to completion
- Follow up consistently on quotes and leads to convert opportunities into sales
- Build strong relationships with repeat customers and project-based buyers
Product Expertise & Sales Focus
- Maintain strong knowledge of key product categories, including:
- Yard and garden tools
- Landscaping materials and supplies
- Outdoor decor
- C.R. Plastic patio furniture
- Self-watering Desert Planters
- Confidently recommend products based on customer needs, space, and budget
- Identify upselling opportunities and complete solutions for customers
Merchandising & Inventory
- Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing department
- Ensure key products are well-stocked and properly displayed
- Assist with inventory accuracy, restocking, and product rotation
- Provide feedback on product performance and customer demand
Team & Store Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with other departments to support store-wide initiatives
- Provide product insights and content ideas to the Social Media & Marketing team
- Participate in in-store events, promotions, and seasonal initiatives

Qualifications
- Experience in retail sales, preferably in yard & garden, hardware, or outdoor living products
- Strong sales ability with confidence in quoting, closing, and follow-up
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Organized and detail-oriented, especially with managing quotes and orders
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment
- POS experience required; Lightspeed experience is an asset
- A genuine interest in outdoor spaces, tools, and creating functional landscapes
